The annual Cambridge Band Competition which has run in the city for over two decades is re-launched for 2008 with the Grand Final to be staged at the Cambridge Corn Exchange for the first time since 1987.
Having run successfully at the Cambridge Junction for the past 10 years, the event originally started off at the Cambridge Guildhall in 1985 moving to the Corn Exchange two years later. For 2008, Cambridge City Council Arts & Entertainments has announced that it is teaming up with the Cambridge Barfly to present this year’s event with the Grand Final making a return to the Corn Exchange in May.
The heats are as follows:
HEAT ONE: THURS 10th APRIL: THE BEAUTIFUL SLEAZY + COMMON COURTNEY + THE FILTHTONES + THUDBOX
HEAT TWO: THURS 17th APRIL: GENERAL LEE + SLAY THAT DOG + FEDERAL BLACK 40 + WOLVES STOLE MY CHILDHOOD
HEAT THREE: THURS 24th APRIL: THE COUGARS + KELTRIX + J-TREOLE + THE WINTER KINGS
HEAT FOUR: THURS 1st MAY: FLICK 66 + THE RIDLEY BURY EXPERIENCE + THIS IS MY HONESTY + YO YO YO! LITVINENKO
The winning band will receive a prize that includes £500 cash, free recording studio time, a prime headline slot at the Barfly, a slot on this summer’s Big Day Out plus more.
