MERETTO

Meretto have been busy in the studio recording a collection of songs under the working title "Tales of Urban Survival". The album is proposed to be released late 2008 on  RockPopRecords. On listening to some rough cuts of the album, it is shaping up to be a classy guitar driven pop records that reflects the fine line between aspiration and disillusionment that urban life can deliver - this release should not be missed! If, of course, you cannot wait until then to sample some of the new material then you should catch them at some of their shows - see gigs section.  Meretto have released their debut through HTT records which saw them become very popular on the UK live scene. With an EP mixed by Simon Hanhart due shortly the band are continuing to win over new fans.

THE VOLT

The Volt have played a number of high profile gigs in recent weeks including support for The Subways at Camden’s KOKO club and a rammed slot at this years Glastonbury Festival on the “Late ‘n’ Live” stage. Other recent London gigs include The Fly in Soho, The Barfly and The Purple Turtle in Camden, and the Lark in the Park. Thanks to their growing local fanbase in the South West, highlights have been shows at Moles Club in Bath, and playing The Louisiana in Bristol.

Earlier in the year The Volt entered MTV’s “Get Seen Get Heard” talent contest and were mentored by Ross Millard from The Futureheads. The resulting television and MTV website exposure includes a band biography, studio sessions, a filmed live performance and the contenders, semi-final and final shows. After a rigorous selection in front of celebrated industry judges they were confirmed as overall 2008 competition winners. In addition to the TV exposure and industry interest, the band have since recorded their ‘Spanking New Session’ at MTV studios which will go live in September, and have been featured in the 'How to Make it in Music' guide for unsigned musicians and bands.

The band are going from strength to strength, and this week in recognition of the quality of their live act, The Volt has been nominated for the prestigious Live and Unsigned category of the 2008 Vodafone Live Music Awards. The ceremony will be a star-studded event at the Brixton Academy on 18th September, and the winner will be chosen through text voting. Lines are open now and close midday on 16th Sept. Text Award04 to 83222.
