The Megaphonic Thrift is based in Bergen, Norway and comprises Richard Myklebust of Stereo21, Linn Frokedal and Njaal Clementsen both of post-kraut rockers The Low Frequency In Stereo and Fredrik Vogsborg of Casiokids/Syme.The music scene of the idyllic city on the west coast of Norway is perhaps the most renowned in all of Scandinavia, having given birth to bands like
Royksopp, Datarock, Casiokids, Kings Of Convenience and Ida Maria.
The Megaphonic Thrift mix equal parts of noise and harmony for their music, best described as noisepop with shoegaze elements. Their premier references are acts like Sonic Youth, Built To Spill,
Dinosaur Jr, Guided By Voices and My Bloody Valentine. They have built their reputation through sensational concerts as noted by RCRDLBL among others: "I stood near the front with a huge smile, the wash of music making me feel like my face was being blown back. It was definitely the loudest and one of the most exciting things I'd seen in Oslo".
2009 saw them sign to Deadly People Records and playing international festivals like SPOT, Roskilde, Ragnarock, Iceland Airwaves and CMJ.
A limited run of their first EP, "A Thousand Years Of Deconstruction" was released in January 2010 with Acid Blues as the lead single. They have been touring relentlessly internationally so far in 2010, already having played EuroSonic, by:larm, ILMC, SXSW, The Great Escape and shows in New York, London etc. A tour with A Place To Bury Strangers is confirmed in UK in May, several festivals and club shows over the summer and fall.
"A Thousand Years Of Deconstruction" will see its full release early August this year. Their debut album "Decay Decoy" was released 1st of March in Norway, and is due internationally January/Febuary 2011.
As ex-Modular executive Phil Hutcheon says:"I love them. I love their energy, their sound and how Acid Blues sparks life into any room. They have heart and it comes across in the songs. The whole Deadly team is excited to spread their sound around the world".
