Passenger ( Formerly Mike Rosenberg Band )

The 22-year-old Brighton And Hove-based guitarist, singer and songwriter (as opposed to singer-songwriter, because the Mike Rosenberg Band are a band) is a rare thing a very young man, with all the enthusiasm and innocence of any other young man, who is capable, through his lyrics, of telling stories from the perspective of the ageing, world-weary man, lost, rootless and full of regret. His partner in this noble endeavour is Andrew Phillips, guitarist, arranger and soundtrack composer. There are almost twenty years between the pair, yet their sad, observational perspective on modern life is almost identical, to the point where they can hardly unravel the who-wrote-what of the twelve desolate beauties that make up their forthcoming debut album. What one can say is that the twelve songs that make up Stray Dog, due to be released in January 2007 are an extraordinary mixture of acoustic folk in the storytelling tradition, and an epic-yet-intimate, hip hop and electronica-influenced modernity, suffused with pain, sadness and precocious wisdom, yet completely free of defeatist miserablism. There is an alchemy at work here, which becomes immediately apparent at a MRB live show, where grown-up fans of acoustic balladry join with gaggles of starry-eyed pop girls in hushed appreciation of the quintets lushness, charm and intensity.

'Kat Flint' says "The child of research scientists and the palest individual ever to be born in Barbados, I was raised in the chill northern climes of Aberdeen and have recently moved to London from Edinburgh where I played on the city's vibrant acoustic scene with my band gingergreen for a tea-and-beer-fuelled four years, topping the citywide poll of Edinburgh's favourite acoustic acts in 2004 and playing to a crowd of thousands (including small dancing children) in Princes Street Gardens during the Edinburgh Festival. Now, solo and five hundred miles away from home, I have found that splendid isolation is all the better for writing songs. I recently finished a month-long, UK-wide tour with the lovely Cara Dillon and have finished my first release, the secret boy's club - a love letter to the children we were, the adults we become and the places we make for ourselves in the world. The kind and hairy men at eARmusic provide me with a musical home in London. I write lyrics about junkyard prostitutes, life in the fearsome crowd and the fact that your lover is 72.8% water. I was told once that I'm pretty good on guitar "for a girl". I wasn't sure if that was a compliment. I am an active campaigner against teenage angst and histrionics in music. I quite like train journeys because they're one of the rare occasions when I can just sit and think."www.myspace.com/katflint

'Daniel Mulhern' says "Since getting stranded in Stockholm after bailing from an undesired job I've been earning my keep from music, writing for all sorts of projects. Pigeon Coup is the first of what I hope to be many albums of songs.
A fellow composer advised me that playing live music was a perfect antidote to the solitary nature of composing so I decided to form a band in the interests of sanity, social therapy and guinness consumption.
After lots of performing we went out to a fishing lodge in Salisbury to do some recording. Happily, the resulting demos prompted the Naim label to work with us and we recorded an album at Ray Davies' Konk Studios during the summer of 2005 where we basked in the warmth of the vibes and vintage equipment."
