Close your eyes and think of a rock band, make that an all time, classic rock band. Chances are you’re thinking of The Rolling Stones, or maybe The Faces, perhaps Aerosmith, how about Free, there’s always Led Zeppelin, even Slade. Whichever band you’re thinking of, the formula is pretty much the same; iconic vocalist / frontman, killer guitarists and a rock steady rhythm section. Now think of a band with the same credentials playing the club circuit today, not so easy is it. But, just about to hit the UK, there is a bill featuring arguably the three best exponents of the art form from across three different continents, performing on the same night, in small venues for a bargain ticket price.
From the UK – The Quireboys
If you cut this band in half, you’ll find the words, rock ‘n’ roll, tattooed on their insides. The band have lived and breathed the music and the lifestyle since exploding on the scene in the late ‘80’s. Like their aforementioned mentors, the Quireboys have that rare ability to notch up hit singles – Seven O’Clock, Hey You, There She Goes Again, I Don’t Love You Anymore - and albums alike and if peer recognition is any barometer of good taste, remember that this is the band personally invited onto tours by The Rolling Stones, Guns ‘n’ Roses and Aerosmith. With a new album that they describe as a return to their roots, to steal a quote from them – This Is Rock ‘n’ Roll.
From the USA –
Dan Baird & Homemade Sin Better known as three quarters of the original Georgia Satellites and one quarter of Jason & The Scorchers, Homemade Sin live are a unique experience. No set lists, no two sets ever the same, but you can expect old Satellites favourites such as Keep Your Hands To Yourself, tracks from Dan’s solo cannon of hits like I Love You Period and whatever covers that fall out of the sky on a particular night. Hitting the stage with an intensity that most bands are lucky to have built up by their encore, Homemade Sin are the aural equivalent of a runaway train, careering out of control until hitting that inevitable wall. Touring to promote their debut and Dan’s first studio album in over ten years.
From Scandinavia –
Diamond Dogs Pretty much unknown in the UK up to this point, Sweden’s Diamond Dogs have been packing out European venues for years. Best described as a mixture of The Faces, The Rolling Stones, Mott The Hoople and Slade, this is a band that are definitely worth coming out of the bar early for. Supporting their first major UK album release.
