If you ask any non-Russian what they associate with Russian culture, they’ll probably come up with a list that includes the
Balalaika, vodka, Cossack dancing, ‘matryoshka’ nesting dolls, and perhaps perestroika. But of course, it is far richer than any of these clichés – and on 12 January next year you can see for yourself just how rich, at the National Russian Dance Show to be performed by the National ballet company ‘Kostroma’.The evening promises to be a magnificent combination of music, drama and dance – with superb costumes, state-of-the-art special effects and the highest standards of artistic production and staging. The show is presented against a backdrop of panoramic sets that reflect in turn the spirit of imperial pre-revolutionary Russia, the passion of socialist zeal, the patriotism and unity of wartime, and the sparkling talent and richness of modern Russia. From orthodox to secular to heroic, this spectacular show offers a compelling insight into the traditions, culture and history of a great country.
